The Book Bird is reopening tomorrow! It seems appropriate for us to emerge from hibernation on the first day of spring: we are rested and hopeful. Cautiously optimistic. The new season comes with a new set of changes and announcements as we continue to adapt, balancing what is possible with what’s manageable for our tiny team. Once again, we thank you for your understanding.
The following is a guide to our reopening plans. All the information you need should be below, however if your question remains unanswered, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
ONLINE SHOP
The best and biggest announcement is that The Book Bird Online Shop is going live! From 10am Tuesday 1 September you will be able to browse and purchase books at thebookbird.com.au. This is a huge step for our little store. The online shop will make lockdown reading so much easier and more accessible.
When selecting items online, please note the different delivery and collection options at the checkout. We offer postage nation-wide through Australia Post. Local customers have the options to reserve items for payment and collection at the shop using the ‘click and collect’ button, or you can complete payment online and pick up from The Book Bird in Pakington Village. Those within our free delivery zones will be able to select the relevant option at the checkout as well. We have also revised the suburbs eligible for free home delivery – see below for full details!
There is a ‘notes’ section where you can communicate important info to us, such as requests for gift wrapping or delivery instructions. If you have any issues, just send us a follow-up email or give us a call, human-to-human.
The online store showcases all the books we’ve currently got in stock and have had before. It won’t display items that we haven’t stocked previously but can easily order for you, so if the book you’re seeking is not listed on our website, please get in touch directly so we can investigate placing a special order. We order every week and the delivery time is pretty speedy in most cases.
Vouchers will be available to purchase from our online shop very soon, however this feature is not ready just yet. We will happily organise one (or ten!) over the phone for you in the interim.
NEW OPENING HOURS
While we remain under stage 3 restrictions we will not be open for leisurely browsing. We will return to our take-away set up with the trestle table at the door to encourage swift and socially distanced transactions. Customers must wear a mask in order to be served.
Our new hours are:
Wednesday – Friday, 10am – 3pm
Saturday, 10am – 1pm
(Yes, we realise tomorrow is Tuesday, but we just couldn’t resist the neatness of reopening on the first, okay?! Okay.)
FREE HOME DELIVERY
Homes in the following suburbs are eligible for free home delivery. Deliveries will be made Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays after 3pm.

Bell Park and Bell Post Hill are no longer included in our free delivery zone. Typical of migratory creatures, Book Bird Charlotte has relocated and unfortunately these suburbs are simply beyond the reach of her enthusiasm. She’s sorry, but not sorry enough to drive that far.
