Like so many small businesses, families and individuals, we’ve never been tested quite like this. Like you, we are adjusting and re-calibrating, and, frankly, bracing. The way we work has changed, and the way we stay connected to our favourite creatures – bookworms – has changed. But we are still here. We truly believe that reading can carry us through a time like this. Bookshops are a kind of literary pharmacy, and, as long as we are able, we will continue to keep you entertained, nurtured and soothed by books.

Please rest assured we are closely following the government’s advice and making decisions in the best interest of public health. In response to the current situation, we have launched a few new initiatives to enable you to safely and comfortably purchase books from The Book Bird. Keep reading to find out more, but, before you do, we’d like to say a heartfelt ‘thank you’. We’ve never been tested like this before, but we’ve also never been loved like this before. When we’re told to keep our distance, it’s amazing to see the ways a community comes together. Thank you for thinking of us during such a stressful time. Thank you for showing up, being present, and keeping us airborne. We hope, in some small way, that we do the same for you.

Our drive-by bookshop

Our shop is now drive-thru! If you’re walking the pooch or dashing to the supermarket, stop by The Book Bird for a take-away book or two. While we can’t allow browsing at this time, we can still recommend you books from our take-out window, which, we must say, looks very cute. We also have cards and stationery and other treasures quickly and easily accessible. It almost goes without saying that we have hand-sanitiser at the counter.

Free home delivery to our local area

We now offer free home delivery to our surrounding suburbs. All parcels include a personalised note with further reading recommendations based on your order. Parcels are then bundled into our vintage bike and cycled to your home. Readers in the the following suburbs are eligible for free home delivery:

Postage across Australia

If you live outside our free delivery zone, we are able to post your books to you. Postage fees are calculated based on the size of the parcel, and we will chat with you about this when you place your order.
