Indigenous Voices Showcase
September 5, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
$15Magabala Books is Australia’s leading Indigenous publishing house, located in the pearling town of Broome in far north Western Australia. Established in 1990, Magabala Books is the proud publisher of award-winning Indigenous writers such as Bruce Pascoe and Sally Morgan alongside emerging storytellers and artists. Magabala’s ongoing vision is to restore, preserve and maintain Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
The Book Bird is excited to be hosting a panel discussion between Magabala Books publisher and author Rachel Bin Salleh and chairperson Edie Wright on the topic of Indigenous books for primary and secondary school-aged children.
At The Book Bird we are frequently asked for recommendations on Indigenous books for kids and teenagers. While we have our favourites, we thought it would make for a very special occasion to have two members of Australia’s most respected Aboriginal publisher talk to teachers, parents and grandparents about what they do and books they love.
Please join us for a conversation on books that educate and celebrate Australia’s rich Indigenous history, languages and culture. This will be of particular interest to teachers, librarians, parents, guardians and other educators, but all are welcome.
Refreshments will be provided.
