Who will love this: Lovers of beautifully written non-fiction, brave enough to revisit a tragic event.
Favourite character and why: The author. Garner’s observations of people, places and events are rich and evocative, yet at the same time, spare and precise. I particularly love her ability to explore her own emotions and reactions.
Best bit: Garner’s observations of people. She creates vivid images of people and captures their emotions with just a few words. Her observations of the prosecutor particularly stayed with me.
Last word: This book is not an easy read, given the subject matter. Garner’s descriptions cut to the bone, just at the crime did.
