Harry Saddler Author Talk

May 16, 2019 @ 6:15 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

The Book Bird invites you to a talk by Harry Saddler, author of The Eastern Curlew.

You’ve probably seen this gorgeous blue gem in store: a pocket-sized introduction to an extraordinary creature. As Harry describes, the Eastern Curlew ‘is not a famous bird, but I think you should know about it.’ Why? Well, you’ll have to come find out…

Bird lovers, conservationists, environmentalists, and anyone with a green bone in their body or a feather in their cap (so to speak…) should come along to Harry’s author talk, our first event of 2019.

Harry Saddler is an award-winning nature writer whose latest book, The Eastern Curlew (2018), celebrates the extraordinary, 10,000-kilometer migration journey of the Eastern Curlew. The birds travel across oceans, from the Artic to the coast of Australia, and have done so for tens of thousands of years. They cannot swim, however, so if they tire and fall into the sea, they drown.

Harry Saddler’s background in fiction writing brings a lyricism and magic to this loving portrait of an underrated bird. Currently listed as critically endangered, The Eastern Curlew serves to bring the majesty of this animal to the attention of those who can and wish to bring about change.
